London
Docklands Volleyball Club produced their best performance
of the season to clinch their fifth Straight victory
on Saturday to keep them unbeaten at the head of the
Men's National League Division 2.
But, in an afternoon of blistering volleyball, one
moment stands out. At 24-15 in the second Set, setter
Andy Vincett jumped to pluck a difficult ball from
the net and, spinning, managed to set Yassir Slitti
who'd run the width Of the court to make the hit.
Slitti powered the hit into, and nearly through, the
Sussex court with Vincett having totally deceived
the block; its absence was critical.
Docklands
had started like a greyhound Out of the traps leading
9-2 in the first set thanks to magnificent serving
from man-of-the-match Slitti. They maintained this
lead to close out the first set 25-16.
Despite
missing influential captain Danny Primus through injury
this was a team performance peppered with brilliant
individual displays. Third set substitute Tim Odele
enhanced his growing reputation; debutant Alec Rak
performed outstandingly the whole game and Setter
Vincett had his best and most consistent game this
season.
It was Vincett's defence that broke the back of the
third set. At 19-16 up but under pressure Docklands
rescued the point to go 20-16 and extinguish any Sussex
hope.
Sussex
were never in the game. They were exposed to wonderful
volleyball that Docklands will have to get used to
producing if they want to succeed in their ambition
of playing European volleyball within 5 years time.
